CommunityFootball in the Community
The Community Programme has certainly evolved since those early days, but the aims and objectives have remained pretty much the same throughout. The community programme engages young people and community groups in mass participation and fun activities that indirectly contribute to raising self-esteem and the feel good factor within the local community. The scheme also actively promotes the importance of ‘fair play’ within sport and through our dedicated support base we are constantly trying to raise the profile of one of the league’s longest serving clubs - Bury FC. Bury Football in the Community now offers a wide range of services that continue to provide young people in Bury with long lasting experiences and a fun introduction to sport that can lead to life-long participation. Our services include in-term and after-school courses, holiday courses, Saturday morning clubs, inter-school national competitions, fund raising days, birthday treats and summer fairs. As well as all this, our programme also engages and supports junior football clubs, girls football, ethnic minorities participation, special needs sessions and the inclusion of young people from disadvantaged areas and backgrounds.
Football in the Community is certainly making a difference in the community and through our main partners - including Bury FC who provide us with valuable support and New Opportunities - we have been able to take advantage of new initiatives, such as the delivery of a ‘Healthy Living Initiative’ within local schools and community groups. This sees members of Bury’s first team squad teaming up with the FITC department to talk to such groups and conduct Q&A sessions before distributing free tickets to youngsters who will become long-term supporters of the club. In addition, we also develop a ‘Childcare’ programme during the holiday periods. It is to this end that along with our partners we are able to affect the lives of many people in many different ways.
